| 1 May, 2009 Welcome to the site of South Asian Heritage Foundation, a non-profit corporation formed to give spirit to the South Asian Heritage Act, 2001 in the Ontario Legislature. It is the goal of the South Asian Heritage Foundation to promote the month of May as South Asian Heritage Month and May 5th as South Asian Arrival Day, pursuant to the Bill 98. The foundation also supports other South Asian initiatives to celebrate our rich heritage. Over the past six years we have worked towards this goal and our website and calendar of events will provide a small glimpse into the work of the Foundation over the past 6 years. South Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity for us as South Asians from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and many other countries to come together and share our common heritage and culture that binds us as a people. Our theme for South Asian Heritage Month is Acknowledge, Educate, and Celebrate. We believe that it is most important that children of South Asian ancestry see themselves reflected in the fabric of our schools, our province and our country. To achieve this, we will focus our energies towards education within schools, within the South Asian community and with our friends and neighbours. During South Asian Heritage Month, the Foundation will distribute posters to schools, public offices, the YMCA and to others who wish to join in acknowledging the South Asian Heritage Month. Should you wish to receive a poster (s), please contact our office at the telephone number listed below. Thank you for visiting our site. Your comments and feedback will be very important as we work towards improving the site by making it a portal for information and resources pertaining to South Asian Canadians. Please take the opportunity to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month with your family , friends and neighbours. Yours sincerely, Harry
